Lip Fillers

The lips are a focus of facial attention and are said to contain 100 times more nerve endings than the fingertips. Not only are lips handy for talking and eating but can even reveal things about us like distress or worry by variations in their size and colour.

Dermal fillers can be used to replace or add volume to the lips. The procedure takes about 10 minutes to do and usually requires what is called a ‘Dental Block’. A dental block is the same procedure that dentists use to completely numb the upper and lower mouth, lips and gums. A tiny needle is injected into the gums and local anaesthetic applied.

Once numbed, the procedure involves accentuating or repairing the vermilion border or ‘Cupid’s Bow’. This is the area where lip liner is used. Once this area is enhanced, we can add volume to the ‘Body’ (or pink part) of the lip if required. The amount of product used relates directly to the size of the lips after treatment. ‘Filler’ is the product used. We only use well known Hyaluronic acid based fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a structural glycosaminoglycan produced naturally in the body and found naturally in skin and lips.

The treatment lasts for between 4 months and 2 years depending on the type of filler used.
