What is Medical Micro Needling?

Medical Micro Needling is a non surgical therapy that work to induce collagen back into the area where it is used. Collagen Induction Treatment (CIT) can be used to restore skin to a previous state for optimum skin health. By ‘damaging’ the skin we encourage it to heal correctly and this is what corrects scarring and pigmentation.

Clinical studies have shown medical micro needling to be more effective than treatments like laser resurfacing, dermabrasion & chemical skin peels and just as effective as non-ablative treatments like IPL, CO2 laser, and Fraxel in stimulating collagen and elastin production to thicken the skin thereby erasing wrinkles and smoothing scars.

How Is Medical Micro Needling Done?

Using a Dermaroller we introduce fine needles to the skin that create tiny channels, this encourages the skin to produce new collagen and elastin and create new skin cells.

  1. First we numb the area using numbing cream, we leave this to set for about 10 minutes until the area is completely numb.
  2. Then we go over the area with the Dermaroller which creates microscopic channels. This would usually take about 10 minutes. These channels actually damage our skin so it can be encouraged to heal correctly – this is how scarring and pigmentation is removed.
  3. Now that we have created these channels we can add Growth Factor Serum by Dr. Zein Obagi. These microscopic channels will allow the serum to go deep into the skin allowing it heal correctly.
  4. There is little to no downtime with medical micro needling, some people just may experience some redness after the treatment is performed.

Where can it be used?

Medical Micro needling with the dermaroller can be used on most area of the body such as face, legs, arms neck etc.

How Does It Work?

Medical Micro Needling improves the thickness of the dermis as well as the epidermis. Your skin then becomes thicker, plumper and more youthful. It also helps with hyper-pigmentation as well as on hypo-pigmentation. Scars such as acne or light scarring see great improvement with medical micro needling treatments.

Serums that are applied to the skin afterwards are also up to 1000 times more effective as the pores are opened and the product is absorbed deep into the skin. Micro needling can be more effective than ablative treatments like laser resurfacing, dermabrasion and chemical peel and just as effective as in stimulating collagen and elastin production to thicken the skin thereby erasing wrinkles and smoothing scars.

How Long Does Medical Micro Needling Take?

A typical session of medical micro needling on the face would take on average about 40 minutes depending on how the area being treated is.
