Frequently Asked Questions & the treatment process at Amara

How does a dermal filler treatment work?

Dermal filler treatments work by injecting hyaluronic acid into the skin where volume has been lost.

A good treatment will soften, lift or rejuvenate visible signs of ageing caused by volume loss. The reduction of the depth of permanent lines and wrinkles gives you a smoother, fresher appearance. With this comes a increased sense of confidence in how you look.

How long will my dermal filler treatment last?

The product is metabolised by your body over time but effects can be expected for 6 to 18 months depending on the area treated and product used. In areas of greater movement, like the lips and around the mouth, dermal filler is broken down more quickly. In areas where there is not so much movement, and the injections place the product more deeply like the cheeks, then the product is broken down much more slowly.

Every case and patient is different but your doctor can discuss this with you at your consultation.

What can I expect at my dermal filler consultation?

At your consultation, one of our doctors will have an honest discussion about your concerns. Everyone’s face is different and we know every patient has different reasons for visiting Amara.

During your consultation we will take some photos and your doctor will show you where they plan to inject and how this will address your concerns. The exact treatment plan will be based on your area of concern as assessed by your doctor, and your desired results. This means every treatment at Amara is customised to you.

What happens after my filler consultation?

If you wish to be treated on the day, we can do this. If you remain undecided and want to go away and take time to consider everything, you can do that too. You will never be pressured into treatment and there is no cost incurred for not being treated on the day of your initial consultation.

Dermal filler treatments vary in technique, length and complexity depending on the area being addressed. Areas with more complicated anatomical considerations, for example where there are lots of blood vessels or nerves, will generally take a bit longer to perform. There are also several grades of dermal filler to select from depending on whether you’re looking to soften, lift, define or rejuvenate a particular area. Needles or cannulas may also be selected to deliver the dermal filler, depending on the area being treated and what you’re looking to achieve.

Are dermal filler treatments reversible?

Yes. We can dissolve hyaluronic acid dermal fillers using a prescription product called Hyalase.

This is a powerful enzyme, available to doctors only and whose administration requires special training.

When injected into the dermal filler, is very quickly dissolves the product, which becomes readily absorbable by the body. This should remove the result and reduce any negative symptoms that might be a result of incorrectly placed filler.

Fortunately, we very rarely have to use hyalase on our patients at Amara. Unfortunately, the decision whether or to administer hyalse to people who have been treated elsewhere is made on a case by case basis and will be dependent on how much you can tell us about the treatment that has brought you to us. Our doctors will only proceed if they feel it is safe to do so.
