One of the most common inquiries we receive at Amara is about the effectiveness of anti-wrinkle treatments as a preventative measure. Many patients want to know when the right time to start getting treatments is and if this will help delay the formation of lines and wrinkles. This type of treatment is often referred to as ‘Baby Botox’.
"The doctors and the staff at Amara are second to none. From the moment I walk into the clinic, I am given a warm welcome and seen to efficiently with little or no wait time. In addition I have always been extremely happy with the results of each treatment."

Will Botox injections prevent lines and wrinkles forming as we age?
Muscle relaxing injections will delay the formation of lines and wrinkles as you age. It is impossible to fully prevent lines and wrinkles from forming. Whether or not you should consider preventative treatment is a more complicated question.
Should I consider preventative anti-wrinkle injections?
If the formation of permanent lines and wrinkles is a concern for you, then yes.
Low dose anti-wrinkle treatments will reduce involuntary movement and over expression of your facial muscles. These movements cause creases in your skin over time.
Moreover, as we age, the components of the skin that give it volume, structure and elasticity deplete and are not replaced as efficiently as when you were younger.
The pairing of this movement of your facial muscles and the creasing of your skin, along with the depletion of some of your skin’s structural components is what causes permanent lines and wrinkles to form.
Lifestyle and wrinkles
We live in an age where many of us spend hours a day looking at a computer screen, smartphone or tablet. We don’t notice it, but when we do this we are squinting and moving our facial muscles, especially those around the eyes. Preventative doses of anti-wrinkle injections will reduce the impact these unconscious movements have on the formation of permanent furrows in the future.
Smoking and diet will also have an effect. Many people also completely underestimate or even dismiss the long term impact UVA and UVB rays have on their skin. Often ‘cloudy Ireland’ is used as an excuse not to wear a protective SPF. As our skin specialists will tell you, the number one weapon in the fight against wrinkles is a good SPF.
Should I have preventative treatment with anti-wrinkle injections?
We will advise you of all the options available to you. Adoption of a well thought out daily skin care regime can be very effective in the long run and a better plan for some people who are genetically blessed. Taking care of your skin with regular light resurfacing treatments like the Hydrafacial MD will also go a long way to preventing permanent line formation. It’s about finding a balance – this is The Amara Way.
When should I start thinking about anti-wrinkle treatment?
It’s different for everyone and for some people, there will be no need. This decision is hugely based on your genetics which you can’t control, and your lifestyle, which you can.
We see people in their late 20’s who spend 8 hours a day looking at a computer screen and have the early signs of permanent lines already. For these patients we would advise a more considered skin care regime first, and then preventative anti-wrinkle measures thereafter if they don’t notice a difference. We see other people in their early 30’s who have spent even longer periods of time in front of a screen. Depending on whether or not they have looked after their skin, and their genetics, they may benefit from starting preventative treatments. Preventative anti-wrinkle treatments are highly case dependent.
Here’s a very level headed articlefrom a beauty magazine in Australia which discusses this treatment quite well.
